Culinary tour of Wexford slated for Scarborough’s first Dishcrawl

from the Scarborough Mirror:

Take a culinary tour through Wexford during Scarborough’s first Dishcrawl Wednesday, March 27, sampling delicious offerings from four different Lawrence Avenue East restaurants.

Participants will travel in a group to and from the restaurants, where they will be served several in-house specialties.

“They get to socialize and talk over some food and try some restaurants they might not have thought to choose before,” said Jennifer Thompson, Scarborough Dishcrawl ambassador.

“A lot of Scarborough is made up of little strip plazas, and it can be intimidating trying to think of which restaurant to go in to. But honestly, the restaurants I chose are all really awesome. They all have really nice menus. Really affordable and good places that you can bring your family.”

At each location, dishcrawlers will hear from owners and chefs who will talk about their restaurants and food.

“A dishcrawl provides more than just a full stomach,” said Thompson.

“It gives you the opportunity to explore a new neighbourhood in your city, and seize a culinary adventure that supports local restaurants and the chefs behind them.”

The restaurant locations are kept secret until 48 hours before the event. One location, Makkalchon, a Korean restaurant, was leaked by Thompson recently through the Dishcrawl Scarborough Twitter, Clues to other participating locations can also be found on the Twitter page.

Ticket holders will receive an email letting them know where to meet when the restaurants are officially revealed.

The event starts at 7 p.m., running until approximately 10 p.m. Participants will spend about 45 minutes at each restaurant, before walking to the next. All the restaurants are located close together, in total guests will spend less than 10 minutes walking.

Limited tickets are still available for a discounted price of $50, plus HST and processing. Guests can save another $5 off the price by entering the promotional code spring5 when buying tickets through the Dishcrawl Scarborough website, Drinks must be purchased separately.

“Fourty-five dollars for four restaurants in one night. It’s perfect,” said Thompson.

“Anybody that loves food, anybody that’s up for a little bit of an adventure, it’s something that’s different. There’s pub crawls out there and you can go to different bars, but there’s nothing really out there when you can go to four different restaurants in one night and get a delicious sampling of food that you never thought to try before.”
