Scarborough Philharmonic Orchestra

Scarborough Philharmonic OrchestraThe Scarborough Philharmonic Orchestra (SPO) is a community orchestra founded in 1980 by conductor Clifford Poole.  We are dedicated to enriching the musical life of the Greater Scarborough community, eastern Toronto and neighboring regions, by presenting high quality musical performances that offer an affordable, enriching, and convenient live entertainment experience. The SPO is dedicated to educational outreach and youth engagement, including the support, encouragement and mentoring of young musicians. Supporting Canadian composers and their music is also a priority.

Our role in the arts community Toronto is to focus on:

  1. Programming and performing artistic and engaging concerts
  2. Supporting the various needs of our musicians
  3. upporting young musicians and various youth initiatives
  4. Engaging various communities within Scarborough

The SPO has had a very successful Composer-in-Residence (CIR) program since 1994 enabling the SPO to commission new Canadian compositions every season.

We perform a minimum of six concerts per season at the Scarborough Citadel Salvation Army concert hall located at 2021 Lawrence Avenue East (at Warden Avenue).
